Terry Bellamy

Position: Board Member

Terry Bellamy is a native of Asheville, North Carolina.  She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and received a Master of Arts degree in Public Affairs from Western Carolina University and is currently working on her Doctorate in Education Leadership there. 

Terry Bellamy has a wealth of experience in workforce development, business recruitment and retention, infrastructure planning, affordable housing, and community and regional collaboration.  She currently serves as Madison County’s new Director of Community and Economic Development. Mrs. Bellamy also serves as the Administrative Coordinator for the E. W. Pearson Project Collaborative. The E. W. Pearson Project Collaborative is a multi-generational network of Asheville’s African American Neighborhoods that have come together to address issues within their communities – collectively. 

During her time as Councilmember, Vice-Mayor, and then Mayor, for the City of Asheville, Mrs. Bellamy served as a member of the Land of Sky Regional Council, and was actively involved in various regional issues pertaining to planning and economic development in Western North Carolina.  As Mayor, Terry she worked collaboratively with the Asheville-Buncombe Economic Development Coalition to recruit manufacturing companies to the region. At AB-Tech, Terry led Buncombe County’s efforts to become an ACT certified Work Ready Community, and assisted with community outreach and marketing of the National Career Readiness Certificate program to Buncombe County businesses.  Terry has served as Marketing Director for Mountain Housing Opportunities and as the Director of Communication for the Asheville Housing Authority, and has a strong awareness of the challenges our region faces with affordable housing and the available resources to aid in solutions to those challenges.

Additionally, she is married to Lamont Bellamy, and is mother to two amazing students, Seth and Imani.

Membership Overview

The ABCLT is a membership-based nonprofit that is controlled by its members. All ABCLT homeowners are members, and other people in the community may also join. All general members have a say in the direction of the ABCLT through voting at the annual membership meeting.

As a general member, you will:

  • Help create and maintain housing that will remain permanently affordable.
  • Participate in meetings of the Membership. 
  • Cast 1 vote on matters properly put before the Membership.
  • Nominate and participate in the election of the Board of Directors.
  • Serve on the Board or committees, if chosen.
  • Receive notices and minutes of Membership Meetings and Annual Reports.
  • You are invited to attend trainings and events.

As a supporting member, you will:

  • Help create and maintain housing that will remain permanently affordable. 
  • Participate in meetings of the Membership. 
  • Serve on the Board or committees, if chosen.
  • Receive notices and minutes of Membership Meetings and Annual Reports.
  • You are invited to attend trainings and events.

The annual membership fee is $25/year or 2 hours of sweat equity.
